Canada Improves to 3-0 after 15-12 Victory over Iroquois
July 5, 2008
COQUITLAM, B.C. - Canada was victorious in a 15-12 thriller against Iroquois Nationals Saturday in the 2008 ILF U-19 Men's Lacrosse World Championships at Percy Perry Stadium.

With the win, Team Canada (3-0) sits at the top of the Blue Division in a tie with United States (3-0). They will play Sunday at 4:00 p.m. with first place up for grabs.

Adam Jones (Owen Sound, Ont.) opened the scoring at the 1:26 mark of the first for Canada. Randy Staats (Hill Academy, Ont.) scored a powerplay goal three minutes later and Elihja Printup scored at the 8:53 mark to put Iroquois up 2-1. The teams exchanged goals for the next three to tie the game 3-3 after one period.

After Iroquois went up 7-4 in the second period, Canada stormed back with three goals in the final five minutes of the half to tie it at seven after two periods.

Canada scored five goals in the third period and took a 12-9 lead into the fourth only to see that lead disappear as Iroquois scored three straight goals to tie it at 12-12. Canada scored the final three goals of the game to lock up the win.

Jayson Card (Caledon, Ont.), Jones and Mark Mathews (Oshawa, Ont.) each had 3 goals for Canada. Staats finished with four goals and Elihja Printup had three goals in the losing effort for Iroquois Nationals.

Iroquois (1-2) will face off against England (1-1) Sunday evening at 7:15 p.m. at Percy Perry Stadium. It will be the fourth round robin game for each team. Round robin play finishes on Monday and will be followed by play-in and playoff games, concluding with the gold medal game on Saturday, July 12 at 2:30 p.m.
