Iroquois eliminates Australia from Medal Contention with 17-14 Victory |
July 7, 2008 |

COQUITLAM, B.C. - Iroquois (3-2) beat Australia (1-4) to eliminate the Aussies from medal contention at the 2008 ILF
U-19 Men's Lacrosse World Championships July 7 at Percy Perry Stadium.
It was all Australia early in the first period when the Aussies got goals from Nigel Morton, Brock Pettigrove and
Jack Woodford to open with a 3-0 lead. Iroquois responded by scoring the last five goals of the period, three by
Emmett Printup (Niagara-Wheatfield High School, NY), one by cousin Elihja Printup (Niagara-Wheatfield High School,
NY) and James Cathers (Corcoran High School, NY) to escape the period with a 5-3 lead.
With Iroquois up 8-4 in the second period, Australia scored four straight to tie at 8-8. Randy Staats (Hill Academy,
Ont.) scored his second goal of the period to put Iroquois back up by one. Emmett Printup scored one more, to make
increase his output to five goals in the first half, to make it 10-8 at halftime.
Emmett finished the game with seven goals to lead the team. He finished round-robin play with a whopping 24 goals in
only 5 games. Teammate Miles Thompson (Salmon River High School, NY) finished with 16 goals, good enough for second
on the team and third in the tournament before the last game between Canada and Japan had been played.
Iroquois locked in third place in the Blue Division with the win and will square off against Scotland Tuesday
evening at 7:15. The winner of that game will play Canada in the semi-finals July 10 at 7:15 p.m. PDT at Percy Perry
Stadium.
Australia will have Tuesday off and will play in a placing game on July 9 at 12:45 p.m. against the loser of the
Germany vs. England game being played at 4:00 p.m. on July 8.
