Team Canada will play for Gold Medal vs. USA |

COQUITLAM, B.C. - Team Canada will get their grudge match against the USA in the gold medal game at the 2008 ILF U-19 Men's Lacrosse Championships after their 23-12 win over the Iroquois Nationals in the semi-final game played July 10 at Percy Perry Stadium.
Canada had an 8-2 lead after the first period and a 14-5 lead at halftime which was a good indication that the Canadians had brought their "A" game. The first time they played, in the round-robin, their biggest lead was only three goals, which is what they ended up winning by (15-12).
Attacker Mark Cockerton (Oshawa, Ont.) played his best game of the tournament for Canada, scoring five goals (all three of Canada's goals in the third period) in the victory. Cockerton is the son of former Lacrosse legend Stan Cockerton.
Stan Cockerton was a member of the Team Canada Senior Lacrosse team in 1978 when the Canadians won the gold medal over the USA. The 1978 games, held in Manchester, England, was the last time the Canadians had won gold in Lacrosse until they beat the U.S. in the 2006 World Championships on home turf, in London, Ontario.
Canada goalie Remington Steele (Dallas, TX) played an outstanding game tonight, making 15 saves on 27 shots. Canada also had outstanding games by Kiel Matisz (Stoney Creek, Ont.), Robbie Campbell (Delta, B.C.), and all the defense, led by Brock Sorenson (Peterborough, Ont.) and Reed MacPhail (Victoria, B.C.). Matisz scored four goals and Campbell scored three.
Team Canada will take on the USA for the gold medal on Saturday, July 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Percy Perry Stadium. Fans can purchase passes at the front gate for the entire day which will feature both the bronze and gold medal games, for as little as $20.
Iroquois will play England in the bronze medal game at 11:00 a.m. on July 12 and the tournament will conclude with an awards ceremony after the gold medal game.
