Team USA now 35-0 in U-19 play; Will play in Gold Medal game

COQUITLAM, B.C. - Team USA extended their perfect record to 35 games as they defeated England 25-5 in the semi-finals at the 2008 ILF U-19 Men's Lacrosse World Championships July 10 at Percy Perry Stadium. USA will play in the Gold Medal game on July 12 against the winner of the Iroquois vs. Canada semi-final.

Andrew Feinberg (Brown University) and Nicholas Elsmo (University of Virginia) led team USA with four goals each and Matthew MacKrides (Malvern Prep School) led USA in points with seven (3 goals, 4 assists).

The U.S. led 5-2 at the end of the first period after goals by Nicholas Elsmo, Craig Dowd, Ramel Bratton, and two goals by James Green. Green got them started at 3:23 of the first period. Zac Guy got both goals for England. In the second period USA got on the board six times and led 11-3 at the break. Matthew MacKrides got two goals and two assists in the second, Elsmo scored two as well, and Dean Gibbons and Ryan Young rounded out the scoring for the period. Max Sandy replied with England's only goal of the period.

The U.S. team outscored England 7-0 in the third period to put the game away for good.

England's Max Leonard was taken off the field in the second period and taken to hospital for examination on his ankle.

At the end of the game the crowd exchanged cheers for the opposing teams congratulating them on a game well played. The teams also gathered on the field together to congratulate each other and got together for a picture on the field.

Team USA will take on the winner of the Canada - Iroquois Nationals semi-final and will play for the gold medal on Saturday, July 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Percy Perry Stadium. Fans can purchase passes at the front gate for the entire day which will feature both the bronze and gold medal games, for as little as $20.

England will play in the bronze medal game against the loser of the Canada vs. Iroquois game at 11:00 a.m. on July 12 and the tournament will conclude with an awards ceremony after the gold medal game.
