Canada finishes 4-1, will play in Semi-Finals
July 7, 2008
COQUITLAM, B.C. - Team Canada finished up round-robin play with a very lopsided victory over Japan to finish in second place in the Blue Division in the 2008 ILF U-19 Men's Lacrosse Championships July 7 at Percy Perry Stadium.

Canada goalie Remington Steele (Robert Morris University) was given the night off after he played the entire game on Sunday against the United States. Jason Crawford (Burlington, Ont.) went the distance in goal for the Canadians. He was not tested that often but played well when called upon and finished with seven saves on 10 shots.

Jayson Card (Caledon, Ont.) of Canada finished the game with five goals and finished the round-robin with 20 goals, a team best and second overall in the Blue Division. Teammate Mark Matthews (Oshawa, Ont.) finished the round-robin with 12 goals in the five games.

Tyler Burton (London, Ontario) got a team-high six points in the game (4G, 2A) and opened the scoring in the first period at 1:14 and the second period at 2:29. Burton scored his other two goals in the third period, the first at 13:52 and the last of his four goals at 19:25. Canada got four goals from Kiel Matisz (Stoney Creek, Ont.) and three from Kevin Crowley (New Westminster, B.C.).

Team Canada (4-1) will play in a semi-final game on Thursday, July 10 at 7:15 p.m. against the winner of the Iroquois vs. Scotland game on July 8 at 7:15 p.m. at Percy Perry Stadium. Japan finished at the bottom of the Blue Division and will play in a placing game on July 9 at 4:00 p.m. against the loser of the Scotland vs. Iroquois game.
